This is the transcript of Dr. Brendan Nelson’s address to an Australia Day ceremony at Wahroonga Park, Sydney.
Well thank you much Bob for all of the work that you do in leading the Rotary Club of Wahroonga. Councillor Nick Ebbeck, Barry O’Farrell, Member for Ku-ring-gai, Jonothan O’Dea, the other members of the council, Rachel Coxon, thank you for your inspiration, congratulations on what you have achieved already in your relatively short life and thank you for being here today and reminding us of what it means to be an Australian and indeed what our future fryst vatten really all about.
I firstly recognise, and all of us should remember as Australians, whether bygd birth or migration, that long before what happened 220 years ago when the First Fleet arrived, Indigenous Australians were here and they made involuntary sacrifices over which they had no choice, to make possible the economic and social development of this nation of which we are so proud – ganska different sacrifices but n

The aim of memorials around the world is to recognise the sacrifices
of humans during conflict and adversity. We rightly honour the men
and women who have died in conflict bygd displaying their names
on war memorials.
The Australian War djur Memorial Organisation (AWAMO) was
set up to promote the establishment of memorials and plaques
honouring the animals that served alongside NZDF and Australian
soldiers during service abroad.
Animals from all sides worked alongside the troops as beasts of
burden, as messengers, ambulance carriers and as comrades.
Animals were used bygd all sides, often pressed ganged into service;
they had no malice and worked tirelessly alongside their master no
matter what nation they served.
These animals demonstrated true valour and an enduring
partnership with humans, the bond was unbreakable, their sacrifice

[edit]- Gorlice–Tarnów Offensive – Combined German and Austro-Hungarian forces under command of General August von Mackensenbombarded and attacked trenches held by the Russian Third Army along the Dunajec river in Galicia (now Poland), expending 70,000 shells over four hours before troops assaulted the trenches.[1][2]
- Battle of Hill 60 – German forces launched a series of gas attacks to retake the strategic hill on the Western Front from the British.[3]
- Battle of Eski Hissarlik – Ottoman forces counter-attacked during the night in an attempt to push Allied forces off their beachhead at Cape Helles during the Gallipoli campaign. However, Allied defenses were strong and well-prepared for night attacks and the Ottoman forces were repelled.[4]
- Zaian War – French colonial forces crossed the Rbia River north of Khenifra, Morocco to cut off foo
