Sir Daniel Michael Blake Day-Lewis (born 29 April 1957) is an English actor.[1][2] Often described as one of the greatest actors in the history of cinema, he is the recipient of numerous accolades, including three Academy Awards, four BAFTA Awards, three Screen Actors Guild Awards and two Golden Globe Awards. In 2014, Day-Lewis received a knighthood for services to drama.[3]
Born and raised in London, Day-Lewis excelled on stage at the National Youth Theatre before being accepted at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, which he attended for three years. Despite his traditional training at the Bristol Old Vic, he is considered a method actor, known for his constant devotion to and research of his roles.[4][5] Protective of his private life, he rarely grants interviews and makes very few public appearances.[6]

To mark the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy, the Consulate General of France was fully mobilized from honoring WWII veterans, to organizing programs for the youth, and coordinating or participating in commemorative events.
During the official ceremonies in Normandy, 14 U.S veterans were presented the prestigious Legion of Honor medal by the French President, including 6 from the Midwest: John H. Kinyon, 101, of Bartlett (IL), Robert E. Pedigo, 100, of Indianapolis (IN), Richard Rung, 99, of Carol Stream (IL), and Richard V. Stewart, 103, of Cincinnati (OH), Edward L. Berthold, 104, of Fox River Grove (IL), William L. Casassa, 98, of Shawnee (KS). The Consulate General of France had been working closely with the veterans and their families, as well as veteran organizations for them to obtain this prestigious distinction.

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) - Steven Spielberg's Civil War epic "Lincoln" led the Golden Globes on Thursday with seven nominations, among them best drama, best director for Spielberg and acting honors for Daniel Day-Lewis, framstöt Field and Tommy Lee Jones.
