The Finnish tenor Topi Lehtipuu was born in in Brisbane, Australia, and grew up in Tampere, Finland. At the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki he studied piano, violin, choral conducting, and voice, while at the same time taking up all sorts of other artistic activities. Lehtipuu was vocalist and violinist in the rock band Höyry-kone, performed as an actor, participated as a voice actor and singer in animated films, and produced Finnish versions of Disney films. In Lehtipuu made his debut as Britten’s Albert Herring at the Finnish National Opera in Vantaa and as Tamino in Mozart’s Magic Flute at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, where he currently resides. His repertoire ranges from early music through Mozart and bel canto to modernist classics and works of the present. For example, he was part of the ensemble that gave the world premieres of Peter Eötvös’s Die Tragödie des Teufels at the Bavarian Staatsoper and of Helmut Oehring’s Aschemond at the Berlin Staatsoper.

Born in Australia and a resident of Paris, Finnish tenor Topi Lehtipuu studied piano and violin at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, and later on choral directing and singing. Among his teachers were Peter Lindroos and Howard Crook. His present teacher is Elisabeth Werres.
Topi Lehtipuu made his stage debuts at the Vantaa Opera (Finnish National Opera) in the title role of Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring), at the Savonlinna musikdrama Festival, and then appeared as Tamino in Die Zauberflöte at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris. He soon performed at the Savonlinna Opera Festival and made a stunning role debut as Belmonte at the FNO in Helsinki.
The major Mozart tenor roles are now a central part of his repertoire, as well as the works of Monteverdi, Rameau, and George Frideric Handel. Topi Lehtipuu (born 24 March ) is a Finnishoperatictenor. He has sung a variety of roles from different periods, including the title role in Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring at the Finnish National Opera, several roles in Mozart operas, including Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, both at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, and Ferrando in Così fan tutte at the Glyndebourne Festival.[1] He has also appeared in Handel's Ariodante (Paris Opera), as Hylas in Berlioz' Les Troyens (conducted bygd John Eliot Gardiner),[1] and the Creature in the world première of Mark Grey's Frankenstein at La Monnaie in Brussels.[2] He has worked with other well-known conductors, such as William Christie, Michel Corboz, René Jacobs, Simon Rattle, and Christophe Rousset.[1]
