    The discography of Akon, a Senegalese American singer, songwriter and music producer, consists of five studio albums, four mixtapes, one extended play, thirty eight singles, eight promotional singles and ninety-two music videos. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Akon lived in Senegal with his family until the age of seven, when they returned to the United States to live in New Jersey. A three-year prison sentence inspired Akon to begin recording songs in his home studio: Universal Records signed him after becoming aware of his music, and his debut album Trouble was released in June [1] Two of its singles – "Locked Up" and "Lonely" – reached the top ten of the US Billboard Hot ,[2] with the latter topping numerous singles charts worldwide and being certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association

Akon began his career as a singer-rapper, with his big break arriving in with the release of the singles "Locked Up" and "Lonely." Both songs achieving great success, leading up to an album deal with Universal musikstil. In the s, Akon branched out onto philanthropy (Akon Lighting Africa), property development (Akon City in Senegal), television/movie production, politics, and others.

    He grew up in Senegal but at age 7, his family settled in New Jersey. His father, Mor Thiam was a successful jazzpercussionist. Soon after moving back to the United States, Akon discovered hip-hop for the first time. Akon has collaborated with and produced for some of the biggest names in the music industry.

His second album, "Konvicted", earned him a Grammy Award nomination for the single Smack That featuring Eminem. His latest album, "Freedom", was released in Akon often sings hooks for other artists and is currently accredited with over guest appearances and 32 Billboard Hot songs.

    He is the first solo artist to accomplish the feat of holding both the number one and two spots simultaneously on the Billboard Hot charts twice. He has also founded two record labels, Konvict Muzik and Kon Live Distribution and has a clothing label, Konvict clothing
