    This godly man is not generally known as a revivalist, but we think his outstanding credentials warrant his inclusion in our list of heroes. He was a first generation convert who developed a passion for God, fought for the truth under extreme hardship, was used in powerful signs and wonders and led countless numbers to Christ – an impressive resumé!

    Gregory the Wonderworker’s Early life

    Gregory was born in a Pontus, a region on the southern coast of the Black Sea, located in the modern-day eastern Black Sea Region of Turkey, around 212-13. His was a wealthy home and his parents named him Theodore (Gift of God) despite their pagan beliefs. When he was 14 years old his father died and soon after, he and his brother, Athenodorus, were anxious to study law at Beirut, Lebanon, then one of the four of five famous schools in the Hellenic world.

    Born at Neocæsarea in Pontus (Asia Minor) about 213; died there 270-275. Among those who built up the Christian Church, extended its influence, and strengthened its institutions, the bishops of Asia Minor occupy a high position; among them Gregory of Neocaesarea holds a very prominent place. His pastoral work is but little known, and his theological writings have reached us in a very incomplete state. In this semi-obscurity the personality of this great man seems eclipsed and dwarfed; even his immemorial title Thaumaturgus (the wonder-worker) casts an air of legend about him.   • Today we celebrate the feast day of St Gregory the Wonder Worker (also known as Gregory Thaumaturgus).  I wanted to write about St Gregory because there are many people who believe that the concept of the Trinity was introduced into the Church at the Council of Nicea by Constantine and his “cohorts.”

    I remember reading some pamphlet produced by the WatchTower a few years ago that was given to me by Jehovah’s (false) Witnesses.  At that time, I was attempting to figure out what I believed.  Was the church corrupt by the time of Constantine?  Was the doctrine of the Trinity a heretical concept later introduced?  inom felt that Jesus was likely God incarnate, but I wanted to be open-minded to counterarguments.  The pamphlet was so full of historical flaws, misquotes of ancient Christian texts, and bad philosophy that I tossed it aside.
