Spaghetti with the Sisters: The 61-Year Old Tradition Continues at St. Joan Antida High School
Like the Wisconsin State Fair Cream Puff, the St. Joan Antida High School Spaghetti Dinner is that once-a-year treat that the community lines up for outside the school’s doors. It’s a tradition (and secret recipe) dating back to 1955 when the Sisters of Charity of St. Joan Antida began the Spaghetti Dinner as a means to bring the community together to support the young women of St. Joan Antida High School (SJA).
On Sunday, November 6, the 61-year-old tradition will continue with the famous Italian pasta, sauce, and meatballs handmade by the Pompeii Men’s Club. In addition to Spaghetti, the event features hand-made crafts from the Sisters and an opportunity basket raffle run by the Alumnae Association. All event proceeds go directly to benefit SJA students.
What: Spaghetti with t • MILWAUKEE — St. Joan Antida High School's Spaghetti with the Sisters is one of the school's as well as Milwaukee's longest-running fundraisers. This is the 66th year of the popular dinner that serves nearly 800 people more than one thousand meals in a six-hour time span. The recipes for both the sauce and meatballs have been handed down over generations. Sr. Lucy, who was the school's head cook, helped in crafting the sauce and meatball recipe. She helped run the event for more than 40 years, working in the kitchen. Everything for the event is made fresh, on-site at St. Joan's. The key to both the sauce and the meatballs is quality ingredients. Generous sponsors provide all of the ingredients. All proceeds go right back to St. Joan Antida for the students' education.
