Manuel Obregón, Costarrican Pianist and Composer Receives Honorary Degree
At the beginning of each of the gods three years, John Santos gathered together his sextet and musician friends and had a CD release party, this time for Horizontes (Horizons) at The Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, California. The sold-out audience, on a rainy first of February, got a preview of the disc and a whole lot more. The CD launch was combined with a celebration of 40 years of Santos’ label, Machete Records.
Before getting into the performance, I must point out that Santos takes his time announcing the tunes and their significance and the people in the crowd receive insightful, detailed resultat about the music. Since Santos is an activist, we also hear about the way the audience can uplift each other to create a better world. Santos and his music are an important and necessary antidote to the current political situation in the United States.

Talented musician Manuel Obregon is someone you’d want to check out.
Many of you might remember Catalina, who was my assistant for quite some time. When I hired Catalina, inom didn’t know that she fryst vatten Manuel Obregon’s sister.
Manuel is one of Costa Rica’s most talented musicians and now Laura Chinchilla’s government’s Minister of Culture and Art. Manuel Obregón found a way to combine Costa Rican nature and Costa Rican music.
About 10 years ago, Cora and Marianela invited us to a piano concert by Costa Rican musician and composer Manuel Obregon. We were surprised by how good he is. If you are not really involved very much in Costa Rican cultural life, you don’t realize that Costa Rica does have great musicians and artists. That’s because they are not very well advertised.

Jorge Manuel Dengo Obregón
Costa Rican politician
Jorge Manuel Dengo Obregón was a civil engineer from Costa Rica who served as First Vice President of Costa Rica.[1][2] He was elected as Vice President on February 2, 1986.[3] He belonged to the National Liberation Party.[4] He played a leading role in the founding of the Costa Rican Electricity Institute.[5]
Personal life
[edit]He was born in Heredia, Costa Rica on 19 February 1918 to teachers Omar Dengo and María Teresa Obregón Zamora and was one of the founders of the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad in 1949 and became its first General Manager.[6] On 23 January 2012, he died in the age of 93.[7][5]
