  • Did Actor Rick Moranis Quit Acting to Raise His Children?

The beloved actor has been mostly out of the public eye for years.

    Claim:

Rick Moranis left acting to raise his children after his wife died in 1991.

In a post dated May 27, 2021, a Reddit user posted a meme praising "Ghostbusters" actor Rick Moranis not just for his comedic on-screen presence, but also for his life choices: namely leaving Hollywood to raise his children after his wife died in 1991.

The meme is true. Moranis did star in the 1989 blockbuster "Honey I Shrunk the Kids." The Canadian actor also stated that he quit acting to raise his two children after his wife, Ann, died in 1991 from breast cancer. Moranis explained the decision in a 2005 interview with USA Today:

I pulled out of making movies in about '96 or '97. I'm a single parent, and inom just found that it was too difficult to manage raising my kids and doing the traveling involved in making movies. So I took a little bit

"I have absolutely no regrets whatsoever. My life is wonderful."

That's what Rick Moranis told The Hollywood Reporter in 2015 when asked about his decision to step away from the spotlight.

The actor — who turns 71 on April 18 — was a popular star throughout the 1980s and 1990s. After first finding fame on the Canadian sketch show Second City Television, he moved on to blockbusters like Ghostbusters and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, in addition to Little Shop of Horrors and Parenthood.

But after his wife, costume designer Ann Belsky, died of breast cancer in 1991, the father of two retreated from Hollywood.

"I took a break, which turned into a längre break," he told THR. "Stuff happens to people all the time, and people make adjustments, change careers, move to another city. Really, that's all I did."

  • Rick Moranis Spotted Out and About in New York City Ahead of His 71st Birthday

    Suddenly, Rick Moranis!

The Little Shop of Horrors legend was seen in a rare candid photograph during a rainy day outing in New York City on Wednesday.

Moranis, who celebrates his 71st birthday in April, was dressed for the wet weather in a blue jacket over a matching shirt, tan pants and black shoes. He finished the look with a multicolored knit cap.

The actor and comedian, who has not appeared in a live-action feature film in more than 25 years, has rarely been spotted out and about since he was the victim of a random punch to the head in the same city back in October 2020. (A suspect was apprehended and charged the following month.)

Moranis decided to take a step back from Hollywood a year after his wife, costume designer Ann Belsky, died in February 1991 of breast cancer. The couple shared two children: daughter Rachel Moranis and son Mitchell Moranis.
