He married Martha "Mattie" Ann Gardner on 28 December 1888, in Rushville, Schuyler, Illinois, United States. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 5 daughters. He died on 17 January 1921, in Astoria, Fulton, Illinois, United States, at the age of 58, and was buried in Salem Cemetery
