In the year , a boy named Hildebrand Bonizi was born in Tuscany, Italy. He was educated for the priesthood in Rome and was chosen by Pope Gregory VI to be his anställda chaplain. After the pope died, Hildebrand entered a monastery to pray and study. But within three years, he was called back to Rome to be an advisor to the newly elected Pope Leo IX. In all, he counseled seven popes. Then he himself was elected Holy Father in at the demand of priests and the people. He chose the name Gregory VII.

Pope Gregory saw three major problems: simony, which is the buying and selling of sacred offices and things; the unlawful marriage of the clergy; and lay investiture. Lay investiture was the practice of kings or emperors appointing bishops and other important Church positions.

Pope Gregory VIII (Latin: Gregorius VIII; c. /– 17 December ), born Alberto di Morra, was head of the Catholic Church and ruler of the Papal States for two months in Becoming Pope after a long diplomatic career as Apostolic Chancellor, he was notable in his brief reign for reconciling the Papacy with the estranged Holy Roman Empire and for initiating the Third Crusade.
Early life
[edit]Alberto di Morra was born about in Benevento. His father was the nobleman Sartorius di Morra. He became a monk early in life, either as a Cistercian in Laon, or a Benedictine at Monte Cassino. Alberto later joined a new religious order, the Premonstratensian or Norbertine order, probably between the ages of 20– He was a canon at St. Martin's Abbey in Laon.[1] He later became a professor of canon lag in Bologna.

Born at Sovana, a small town in southern Tuscany, the son of a blacksmith and christened Hildebrand, he was educated in Rome by the archpriest John Gratian, who in became Pope Gregory VI. However, because of a financial deal involved in getting rid of his corrupt predecessor, Gregory was deposed in by the reformin
