  • George Baker Selection was a rock band from Hoorn, the Netherlands.

    George Baker (born Johannes Bouwens, The Netherlands) is the singer, songwriter, and founder of the Dutch pop music band, the George Baker Selection in 1969. They have sold over 20 million records worldwide.

    The band acquired international fame with the two major hit singles; the psychedelic rock-style Little Green Bag (1969), and Paloma Blanca (1975).

    In 1982, Paloma Blanca was used in the TV movie The Executioner's Song. In 1992, Little Green Bag again topped the international charts after it was used in Quentin Tarantino's motion picture Reservoir Dogs. Little Green Bag was also used in Chilean telenovela "Machos" as the main theme, and in a commercial for a norwegian pizza called "Grandiosa".

    In 1967, Johannes Bouwens was living in Wormerveer and joined the band Soul Invention, a soul band which played covers of songs by Otis Redding and Sam and Dave. They changed their name to

    Bouwens was born near the end of World War II on 8 December 1944 as the son of a single mother on the Gravenstraat in Hoorn, at or near the location where Jan Pieterszoon Coen was born in 1587.[1] Months before Bouwens was born, his father, Peppino Caruso, a former Italian soldier from Calabria put to labor by the Germans in nearby Grosthuizen, had been killed while attempting to escape when he was to be transferred to Germany.[2] Bouwens was raised by his mother and his grandparents, Willemke Woudstra and Johannes Bouwens (1886–1952), first in Hoo

    George graduated from Albany High School in 2005, where he was a student athlete. He excelled in sports and in the classroom. He lettered in both football and baseball during his high school career. George was a starting outfielder during both his junior and senior years and a key player within the team. His ability to bat for average and with power made him a threat at the plate. He was coached by Kevin Darouse throughout his baseball playing days. A late bloomer in football, did not hinder his abilities on the field. George earned a starting spot as a wide receiver for his final two years under the coaching of Lonnie Reed. He earned first team all-district during his senior year at wide receiver, giving much credit to Mark Thompson, his position coach, for the guidance during his short football run.
