Atelier van Lieshout
Atelier Van Lieshout is the studio practice of Rotterdam-based artist Joep van Lieshout (NL, ). Since its founding in Van Lieshout has been working solely under the studio’s name as a methodology towards undermining the myth of the artistic genius. Over the past three decades AVL produced a multitude of works on the border of art, design, and architecture. These works share a number of recurring themes and obsessions, such as systems, power, autarky, sex and life and death. AVL is internationally renowned for sculptural installations which harbor a controversial, sinister and playful tone.

This elegant apartment in Lambersart, a suburb of Lille, France, is one such case. Despite possessing beautifully crafted bay windows, a magnificent glass roof and stained-glass details, it had fallen victim to an undiscerning owner, who had made alterations totally out of keeping with its character. Fortunately, these mostly disguised rather than obliterated original features, and when it came into the hands of a more sympathetic custodian, the stage was set for a brilliant revival.

What is the best thing that i love about my work?
As I am visual artist and also painting teacher and art therapist, in my teaching yrke I love to assist the miracle of the wonder and surprise that comes up in people in the workshops when they discover their creativity that was repressed maybe for a long time. in the creative process it comes to light again connecting them with the energy, vitality, enthusiasm, the spontaneity of a child, joy and deepness , and listening to their true nature as it expresses itself on the paper.
During my own painting process inom love it when I am able to let myself fall totally into the creative process, feeling only the present moment and the awareness of the energy of movements and colors, a strong meditative connection to something I call the source, that guides me beyond the mind, the fear, the doubt.
