    Parvathamma, wife of late actor Rajkumar, passes away

    BENGALURU: Noted film producer and wife of Kannada thespian Rajkumar, Paravathamma Rajkumarpassed away after a prolonged illness at a private hospital here, early today. She was 78.

    Paravathamma, who has been suffering from cancer, died of a cardiac arrest at 4.40 am at Ramaiah Memorial Hospital here, hospital sources said.

    She is survived by her three actor sons, Shiva Rajkumar, Raghavendra Rajkumar, Puneeth Rajkumarand two daughters.

    "Paravathamma Rajkumar expired on May 31 morning at 4.40 am. She had known case of breast malignancy with metastasis to her liver and lungs. Her renal functions had also compromised," President of Ramaiah Memorial Hospital, Dr Naresh Shetty said in statement.

    "At about 10 pm on May 30, her pulse and BP started falling. She had a cardiac arrest at 4.30 am. Despite all active measures, she failed to respond. She was declared dead at 4.40 am," the statement further read.

    Parvathamma’s body has been taken to son Raghavendra Rajkumar’s house and will be kept at Poornaprajna school grounds in Sadashivanagar, Bengaluru for public to pay homage. She will be buried today evening next to her husband at the Rajkumar memorial in Kanteeveera Studio. Raghavendra also said that her eyes would be donated as per his father’s wish.

    Her first movie was Trimurthi, which she launched as she felt her husband was not getting his due from the producers. Parvathamma went on to tillverka over 80 films and also mentored the film career of her three sons. She also introduced actresses such as Prema, Ramya, Malasree and Rakshita. She was honoured with Rajyotsava Award by the Karnataka State Government and later the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

    Industry mourns death of Parvathamma Rajkumar

    Early Wednesday morning, the entire Kannada film industry experienced a loss in silence. Dr Parvathamma Rajkumar- Kannada film producer, wife of the late legendary actor Dr Rajkumar, passed away at 4.40am at the hospital where she was battling for life over the last few weeks. Parvathamma had been admitted into the Intensive Care Unit of MS Ramaiah Hospital in Bengaluru on May 18 with kidney-related ailments and respiratory problems.She was on ventilation support during her gods few days before she died due to cancer.
    Marking the unfortunate passing, the entire Kannada film industry has declared a day off in honour of Parvathamma who was one of the most strongest and most influential women producers the industry has seen. Cinema halls have been declared shut and some schools have been declared shut too.
